Buyers Advice & Information

  • Price range: One person tents come within 3 price ranges which are cheap (below $150), mid - range (from $150 - $300) and fairly expensive (above $300). The price range you choose will be based on your budget and your camping needs. The difference between these price ranges will be noticed by the materials used for the tent and the workmanship put into the design. If your an occasional outdoors person then you can spend less, but if your out in the wilderness a few times a year – in harsh conditions or both then consider investing a bit more cash.

  • Size: Of course all the above tents are designed for one person, however, some models are roomier in length, width or height than others. Do check these measurements before purchasing a shelter, especially if your a tall person over 6ft in height --- otherwise you could run into some tight spots.

  • Weight: For the solo backpacker - carrying minimal weight is of great importance. If you never backpack and have a base camp then weight is not going to be an issue. I try to consider a tent that has a good balance between comfort and being lightweight. As a guide above 3.5 lbs is starting to get heavy and above 4 lbs is going to be too heavy to carry in a pack.

Base Camping

If you only ever stay at a base camp and don't hike with a tent and pack, then you might want to consider a 2 person tent option which will provide more room and comfort. See the two person models here »
