Durability Space/Room Value Ventilation Waterproof Setting Up They did however, find that the vestibules were a bit on the small side and some reviewers found the tight fit when 2 people occupied the tent somewhat uncomfortable. Rated in 2007 buy outside away as killer value for the best all rounder. Perfect for base camp and hiking for 2 or base camp for 1 person, with ample room. Overall Ratings
The Black Diamond Skylight Tent
Tent Ratings
Durability Space/Room Value Ventilation Waterproof Setting Up The skylight is a 2-3 person Black Diamond Tent that sells for around $400.00. It has a mixed single/double wall construction with the front of the tent having a mesh inner wall for ventilation and the back of tent having single wall construction. The attached Nanoshield can be rolled up during those warm sunny days and used as a vestibule when the weather turns not so nice. It has 4 mesh pockets for organizing small things. Most reviewers really liked the design of this tent and love the ability to star gaze on nice nights. They also found this tent to be extremely durable. However, there were several users who found this tent difficult to set up and several complained about condensation as well. While this may be a durable tent and experienced campers may not mind the difficulty this tent poses when being set up it is probably not going to be a tent that those new to the camping realm are going to enjoy.
Considering the hefty price tag on this tent one would hope for better ventilation and easier set up. Although, outside away rated the Black diamond skylight with the gear of the year award 2006. Excellent weight to size ratio, makes this Black Diamond tent a good backpacking option. Overall Ratings The Black Diamond Mega Light Tent Tent Ratings
Durability Space/Room Value Ventilation Waterproof Setting Up The Black Diamond Tent called the Mega light is a pyramid style floorless tent that is designed to set up quickly almost anywhere under any conditions. This tent is floor less, which while it may make it unappreciated by some campers it makes for a lightweight shelter for the avid backpacker. Lighter than a bivy sack it offers more interior space to spread out. When staked down correctly it can take some pretty high winds and tough weather conditions. It is priced at $260.00
While this tent is not for everyone, it offers a spacious alternative to the bivy sack for climbers and hikers who don't mind sleeping close to the bare ground. It's sturdiness and ability to perform in harsh weather proves that the Mega light camping tent does what it is designed to do. This is a tent that is recommended for those who truly know the meaning of roughing it. Overall Ratings The Black Diamond First Light Tent Tent Ratings
Durability Space/Room Value Ventilation Waterproof Setting Up
The first light is a compact 2 person tent that is designed for 4 season use. It has steep walls and all the seams are double sewn and the canopy is made of Nanosheild. It sells for $300.00. While this tent got mixed reviews with many people liking the design and the sturdiness of the tent. Many users found that this Black Diamond Tent has a tendency to both collect condensation and to leak in the rain. When purchasing a $300.00 four season tent one would expect this tent to shelter them in all kinds of weather and climate. The fact, that this tent is less than good in rainy conditions makes it the least appealing of the Black Diamond Tents. Overall RatingsConclusionWhile overall, Black Diamond Tents do seem to be sturdy some models do have problems staying dry. The Mesa and the Mega light do not seem to have any issues with condensation or leakage and they are easy to set up. Therefore, it might be best to consider one of these two tents if you are going to purchase a Black Diamond Tent for your camping or backpacking adventures.
